The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.

The former head of state was sentenced of plotting a military coup in last fall and sentenced more than a 27-year term in prison, but he continued under confinement pending appeals.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Justice Moraes said the decision to arrest the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after fresh information came to light.
